The storm-resistant equipment will be powered by solar panels and the project will launch next year, in 2016. <\/p>\n<p>Marine life will float right through the filters. Because there are no nets, &#8220;entanglement will be virtually impossible,&#8221; Slat comments. His Ocean Cleanup team proposes to eliminate about half of the <a href=\"http:\/\/education.nationalgeographic.com\/encyclopedia\/great-pacific-garbage-patch\/\">ocean&#8217;s floating island of plastic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theoceancleanup.com\/blog\/show\/item\/worlds-first-ocean-cleaning-system-to-be-deployed-in-2016.html\">The Ocean Cleanup<\/a> and a native of the Netherlands, offers this comment on the value of his project: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cTaking care of the world\u2019s ocean garbage problem is one of the largest environmental challenges mankind faces today.
